My sculpture is a blend of contemporary themes with classical form. The studio which is attached to our home offers me ample space and light to do statues ranging in size from a few feet to monumental in scale.
I draw inspiration from my Greek heritage and the genius of the Golden Age of Greek sculpting. Bronze figures, both human and animal, are my milieu. My work graces both private and public collections.
While in Michigan I have created numerous monuments and sculptures depicting historical, mythological and spiritual figures that are sited throughout the Midwest. I am listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the Midwest. The National Sculpture Society and the National Academy of Design have both recognized my talent through top awards including the Gold Medal and the Daniel Chester French awards, respectively.

Janet Kelman
Biography
Janet began her love affair with glass in 1970. While studying chemistry in college, she watched, fascinated, as the glassblower in her department created scientific equipment. Upon graduation, she taught herself lampworking (glass worked over a torch) and, with a partner, built and ran a hot glass studio for eight years, creating her signature fish paperweights and floral perfume bottles.
In 1985, Janet reinvented herself as an architectural glass artist, providing decorative sandblasted doors, windows, and mirrors. Recent commissions also include large glass mosaics, glass and metal donor walls, and lighting. Her work graces homes and businesses across the Detroit metropolitan area.
Learning to scuba dive inspired her sculptural "Seafan" series. They reflect the undulating forms and luscious colors of coral reefs. Janet was married (for the first time) in 2008, inspiring new work: glass slippers and nesting birds.

Color fascinates me. I have an intense emotional reaction to color. My quilts reflect this. Whether it's a bouquet of flowers, a face, or an underwater scene, the most important aspect for me, are the colors I use to depict my subject. My sewing machine is a drawing tool. I use it to define and enhance the image, and draw the viewer into my vision.

Nancy McKay's silk paintings capture treasured moments in nature. The flow of watercolor-like painting on the surface of the silk mimics natural patternings. Many of these silk paintings incorporate quilt-like thread work. The stitching causes the silk to reflect light into faceted planes and the surface to glow.
Nancy holds a master's degree in textile arts. She teaches privately in her studio, locally for quilting and fiber-arts guilds, and has been a guest faculty member at the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina (www.folkschool.org) since 2004. She has exhibited work at juried local, regional and national fine-art and fiber-arts venues. She received an award in landscape painting at the Fourth International Silk Painting Congress in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Couture is the art of dressmaking: the melding of a designer's aesthetic sense with the best materials, excellent technique and a client's personality. Each woman becomes a muse, a source of creative learning for the designer. Together we work to meet the client's needs, paying careful attention to her interests, in order to define her unique identity through the perceptive language of clothes.
Meaningful dress communicates inward and outward, establishing self and social distinction. Beautiful materials are essential. Many fabrics are elegant and exquisite. Some are quietly understated. A few are made by local artisans; more are imported. Pure silks: sheer mousseline and lustrous satin, earthy tussah. Rare wools: smooth worsted and soft cashmere. Lovely linens and comfortable cottons. Shimmery man-made fibers, laces, buttons, leather, beads and feathers. A thorough understanding of the inherent nature of the materials is requisite to my ability to advise my clients in selecting the best available for each garment.
A master of my craft, my method emphasizes impeccable detail. Intricate embroidery and fiber techniques are often critical to the strucュture of a garment. Pattern and good fit, which determine line and drape, are crucial. My knowledge of sewing, hands-on construction and close attention throughout integrate the work, lending a deceptively simple appearance to a highly complex object.
My clients enjoy a creative, interactive process. I listen, focus and visualize. Uniting the cloth, client and time, I show and draw as we adjust and refine. Providing outstanding personalized service, I make wearable garments that transcend their use - extraordinary clothes one can live in confidently, that engage and enhance the mode of the most discerning woman.
Couture is my reason for being. It is a constant striving, my best effort, toward perfection of my objects and their performance. My work exists at the junction of art and high end ready-to-wear. Like architecture, this art form is lived in. Its effect varies, often changing in appearance over time. It has many dimensions. It is the name of my dreams.

Tantric art is a presentation of the divine in form, though what is being presented is completely beyond form. That is why it is a presentation rather than a representation. It is an incarnation of the divine'
-Traktung Rinpoche.
Since 2007 Tsogyelgar Dharma Center has undertaken the project of creating the largest cycle of Tantric Buddhist murals in America under the direction of Traktung Rinpoche, the center's Director, Meditation Master and scholar of Vajrayana Buddhism and other spiritual traditions. The luminous imagery of Buddhas in Purelands conveys one of the central themes in Tantra, the view of embodied pure perception. For practitioners of Vajrayana, the mural is a source of great blessing that displays the actual qualities of enlightened awareness while serving as a guide for meditation in symbolic form.
Artist Rob Davis recently relocated to Ann Arbor to work on the project after apprenticing for several years with Master Tibetan Painter, Pema Rinzin, at the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art in New York. Mr. Davis, a close student of Traktung Rinpoche is working with the help of over 20 assistants from the Ann Arbor area to complete the project by July 2009. The murals, along with meditation gardens and stupas will further the center's aim of translating and transmitting the dynamic qualities of enlightened awareness. See listing for public hours, or by appointment.
